Simplismart’s work with Exotel illustrates why a voice-agent deployment cannot optimize cost without considering response time. A cheaper answer that arrives too late can make the service unusable, while permanently reserving excess compute can erase an apparent model-price advantage.
In its October 27 company update, Simplismart says Exotel used an open model trained on its own data with Simplismart inference. It reports ₹0.90–₹1.30 per minute against ₹2.10 for the compared closed-model API setup, and latency below 300 milliseconds against 1.1 seconds. The company attributes the result partly to allocating a fraction of a GPU.
Keep the workload in the comparison
These are vendor-reported figures for the described workload. The release does not provide a complete, independently reproducible end-to-end evaluation of call resolution, quality or human transfers. Lower inference cost is not automatically lower cost per successfully resolved customer call.
The deployment is nevertheless a more useful economic signal than a token-price table alone because it connects serving configuration to an application constraint. It also points to what must stay visible when a team compares alternatives: the traffic profile, model, latency target and included infrastructure charges.
Demand still changes after tuning
Simplismart says its platform combines inference optimization with capacity orchestration. For a production voice service, the next test is whether the stated cost and response time hold when demand shifts or capacity is interrupted. Idle capacity and recovery can change the result even if the underlying model is unchanged.
If Exotel’s configuration sustains acceptable call outcomes under those conditions, it supports a stronger operating case for tuned inference. The next evidence should include quality, transfer rates and full service costs alongside the per-minute compute comparison.
