SAP is making Joule Work the starting point for tasks that span its business applications and external tools. The October 28 TechEd update addresses a familiar enterprise problem: employees can know what they want done while still having to navigate several applications to do it.
In its event account, SAP describes Joule Work connections to SAP applications, Office365, Claude Cowork, Glean and ServiceNow, with remembered context and shareable spaces. It says more than 110,000 employees and over 150 early-adopter customers tested the experience.
A connected interface still needs a defined job
SAP also presented a portfolio of assistants and agents across business domains. The commercial proposition is to connect existing application context to execution, rather than ask each user to reconstruct that context in a separate assistant.
Those testing figures show exposure to users, as reported by SAP. They do not disclose the mix of tasks, rejection rates or how much work required correction. Likewise, portfolio size is not a measure of the reliability of a particular workflow.
Measure the transaction behind the conversation
A customer assessing Joule Work should begin with a business operation whose result can be inspected in the underlying system. For example, completing an approved request should leave the correct record and ownership state, not simply a persuasive summary in the chat. External connections also need the same permission discipline as native application actions.
The immediate gain could be less application switching and less repeated explanation of context. Longer-term value depends on whether that convenience survives exceptions, changed instructions and failed integrations. SAP’s next useful evidence would connect a named customer task to its accepted result, total elapsed time and human review burden.
