Okta’s October 22 update expands the work an administrator can do before an AI agent reaches enterprise tools. The company is connecting agent registration, platform imports and MCP configuration rather than leaving each new agent as a separate identity-management project.

In the product update, Okta describes imports from Cursor, Snowflake, Databricks, Workato and Tines, plus a Multi-Source Agent Schema for custom metadata. Registration through a Client ID Metadata Document uses a vendor-hosted URL to reduce manual credential handling. The post also describes cataloged and custom MCP-server connections.

Registration has to preserve ownership

Custom fields can capture an agent’s purpose, environment or risk classification. That matters because a generic identifier does not explain who should authorize a change or investigate a failure. Keeping a consistent record across repeated imports is part of making the registry operationally useful.

Okta presents these as product capabilities. The announcement does not show that importing an agent captures every action it can take, or that a registered agent cannot reach an ungoverned route. A customer still needs to test the actual integration paths.

Review the path from identity to a tool call

For an initial rollout, teams can compare the registered owner and purpose with the permissions attached to a small set of MCP tools. They should then remove or change an entitlement and inspect whether subsequent calls reflect that change. This checks the working control path instead of stopping at a populated inventory.

If the imports and registration mechanisms remain accurate as agents change, Okta could reduce administrative delay without sacrificing accountability. The next evidence is a maintained registry whose metadata and access decisions match real activity across the connected platforms.
